I keep your financial information flowing smoothly

The Controller is usually one of the highest financial and accounting individuals in a small-to-medium business after the CFO.

Depending on the size of the organization they might be peers with the Director of Finance or the VP of Accounting and is usually reporting into the CFO.

Usually the Accounting Manager and the Finance Manager might report into this role. and from the Accounting and Finance Manager they usually have AP, AR, and GL reporting into it. Taxes and payroll might also be direct or indirect reports.

Usually.

But I believe one of the strengths of a good Controller is that they are not bothered by titles.

My job as the Controller is to make sure accounting and finance are working smoothly. Close is getting done. Audit is getting done. Policies are in place.

The CFO has other priorities and the Controller role is there to give room to the CFO to focus on other priorities.

I believe a good Controller can be counted on, can prioritize tasks, can ask the right questions, and be the leader that the accounting and finance department needs.
